A. NOTICE of the Annual General Meeting
and Prize Giving Ceremony to be held on Sat 5 November 2005
at 
Address : Blue Gill Club House

                Cormorant Drive, Blue Gill ,  Kempton Park
 
Directions : From Cnr of Dann Rd and Monument Rd Glen Marais Ex 22 Kempton Park.
  If you are traveling along Monument towards Dann Rd you will turn left into Dann Rd. Super Spar shopping complex is on your right hand side.  Continue down Dann Rd until the robot, Veld Street. Turn right into Veld street, Blue Gill complex is on your left hand side 200m from the Robot. 
 Sign in at the gate continue straight along Cormorant Drive after the second stop street on your right hand side is the clubhouse. Drive past the clubhouse and you will immediately get an entrance to the parking area. If you get lost you can call Kevin Jurrius for directions: 082 452 1298


Programme of the day
10:00  onwards arrival at the Club House

10:30 –12:30 Blitz for individuals (Supply own clock please)
12:30 – 13:50  LUNCH  - Bring and Braai ( Bring own meat and drinks)

14:00 – 14:20  Prize giving
14:30 -  16:30  AGM


Club players are invited to join in our annual social chess happening. An Organised 5/5 Blitz will take place (individuals) from 10:30 –12:30 at the venue above, participants to supply their own chess clock please. Lunch will be a “Bring & Braai”. Participants to bring own meat and drinks, glasses and plates, braai utensils, etc. Tables and chairs will be provided. The GCL Committee will provide the fire, bread rolls and salad.

Representatives of Clubs and Club players and especially our winning teams are invited to attend the social events of the day and the AGM. If more than two persons from your Club will attend the social events, please let Elise or Kevin know so that enough food can be prepared.

Members (Clubs) that wish to propose alterations/additions to the rules for 2006 or any other aspect of the GCL are requested to submit such proposals in writing to the Chairman, Mrs Elise Steenkamp (e-mail info@chessconnection.co.za or Fax 012-6544737) by 17 October 2005.
 
 Proposals for AGM

 

The GCL Executive will propose the following:

1. Relegation of disqualified teams or teams that withdrew.
 A team that was disqualified due to not showing at two scheduled matches in one season, or teams that withdrew after the league has commenced will be dealt with in the usual way as stipulated in the current rules. Additionally, at the discretion of the League Director, such teams may be relegated to the lowest division in the following league season.

 

2. The participation fee for league teams to be raised to R300 per team for 2006.
Compared to the entry fees of other chess events, the League only charges R30 per player (ten players) or R50 per player (six players) for an event with 11 rounds.

Congratulations Centurion A for winning the Premier Division the fifth year in a row. Your Club can now confidently claim its place among the greatest Clubs in Gauteng (previously Transvaal) of the past sixty years! See the list of past (and present) League Champions attached.

 

Medals & Trophies


As was decided at the AGM last year the deserving teams shall receive medals for their performance this year.
 Six medals will be handed out to the team captain. Clubs that wish to order more for the team may do so by letting Elise Steenkamp know by 14 October. The cost of additional medals is R30 each, payable directly to the League on order.

Third: Springs Royal A  - bronze medals

Second Division North

First: Brooklyn Mall B  - gold medals – Team Trophy
Second: Pretoria C – silver medals

First : West Rand – Certificates & Team Trophy

 

C. Promotion/Relegation

 For the 2006 season the following teams shall be promoted to the Premier Division:
 Brooklyn Mall A, Centurion C and Vaal University of Technology A (VUT).

The teams Tuks A, Ndaba A and Medunsa A shall be relegated to the First Division.

TUT A and Kagiso shall be relegated to the second division.

From the 2nd Division South, Gauteng South B and from the 2nd Division North the team of Brooklyn Mall B shall be promoted to the First Division.

 

D. Election of new Committee

 

 The Committee of 2005 functioned with only three members, Elise Steenkamp (Chairman), Kevin Jurrius (League Director) and Roel Stadman (Treasurer). They are all willing to serve on the GCL Committee again next year, though Kevin indicated that he would not be able to be the League Director in 2006.
 There is a serious need for nominations for the position of Secretary and League Director for 2006.

 These documents had been distributed to member Clubs earlier this year. It can be supplied by e-mail again, if requested.
