GW Coaching notice
The coaching sessions will start this Friday 21st August from 18:30 – 20:30 at Trinity House – 23 Knoppiesdoring Street, Rand Park Ridge.
Coaching dates are as follows:
21 & 28 Aug;
4 - Sept - no coaching (NWR Open)
11 Sept - Teams for Nationals will be announced before the start of coaching
18 Sept
25 Sept - no coaching;
2, 9, 16 & 23 Oct.
We are not sure about 30 Oct., but will let you know about the coaching or 30 Oct. No coaching will take place during Nov., because of everybody writing exams.
There will be a GW chess get-to-gather on 5 Dec to play chess as a refresher before we leave for Nationals – will be in the form of a bring & braai after the chess games.

Webcom Open - results
Chess fever in Cape Town
An international and three national tournaments were run concurrently in Cape Town during the first 2 weeks of July. The African Youth (30th June - 9th July), S A Open (3-11 July), Blitz (8 July) and
S A School Championships 6-9 July. Our GW players have really excelled in these tournament.

Congratulations to Aleida de Bruyn (left) for winning the U10 Girls section at the African Youth. Inge Marx was 2nd in this section. The 2 girls earned themselves WFM and WCM titles respectively.
Many our players played at least two and two players – Alessandro Crismann and Ruwayne du Piesanie - played in three.

The S A open was a very strong tournament and our players performed well.

Ryan van Rensburg who was sixth place tied.
Matt Pon won first place in 5 - 13 age category
Alessandro Crismann won second place in the same age category
Ryan van Rensburg beat SA top player Watu Kobese (2493) and drew to the following titled players - GM Dimitri Komarov, Ukraine(2530), IM Punchen Wang, New Zealand(2453), IM Johannes Mabusela (2244) and FM Nicholas van der Nat ( 2322) , previous SA Open winner, Gordon Meyer, visiting from UK, (2235). Ryan did not concede a loss, and either won or drew his games in the 11 rounds.
Matt Pon was named the slayer of coaches, having defeated two, but, no names shall be mentioned.

will take placeon Friday, 24th July and Saturday, 25th July at Laerskool Fontainebleau, C/r Charlie and Rabie Str, Randburg. The 2nd phase of the trials will be on invitation only and based on the results of the 1st phase.
